What Mentoring/Mentor Means To Me Part II
Lauren highlights the need to mentor students who may not otherwise seek guidance.
While mentoring young students who excel academically and have ambitions is a fulfilling venture, some mentors overlook the most rewarding experience: mentoring those who may not want help. At-risk youths and struggling students benefit more from mentoring than others who are achieving without guidance.
According to the National Mentoring Partnership, young adults who were at-risk for falling off track but had a mentor are:
55% more likely to enroll in college
78% more likely to volunteer regularly
90% are interested in becoming a mentor
130% more likely to hold leadership positions
Focusing on those who need it the most but may not otherwise see the benefits can be challenging. In our second installment of our series, Lauren cites the positives to mentoring these young individuals.
